Impacts of Overturning Roe V Wade

When the Supreme Court handed down its 6-3 decision overturning Roe v Wade yesterday, I was interested to see the response of Congressman Sanford Bishop and Senator Rafael Warnock. The responses were predictable based on party line.

Democrats focused on a woman’s right to kill her unborn child implying that killing the child would make the pregnancy as if it never happened. Republicans focused on the protecting the rights of the unborn child.

The truth is that when pregnancy occurs, a significant event takes place in the life of the mother, and father for that matter. Killing the unborn child does not “reset” the clock, it only adds another event in the lives of the mother and father, especially the mother.

That event is an irreversible act leaving physical and emotional consequences for the mother. Then there is the child and there is no such thing as a safe abortion for the unborn child.

We as a people, must be willing to recognize the biological, emotional, and spiritual values of conception and abortion. These values reveal the political, cultural, and spiritual impacts on our society from the reversal of Roe v Wade.

Political Impact

The Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v Wade will have wide-ranging political impacts. State legislators, especially Democrats, will no longer have the safe haven of the Supreme Court to hide behind.

Now it is up to the legislators in each state to establish the policies and regulations of abortion. Republican legislators who quickly claimed pro-life, but said they could do nothing about the Supreme Court no longer have Roe v Wade to allow them to avoid making a decision. Now we will see just how strong their position on right to life really is.

Democrats, especially in strong church communities, will have a more daunting challenge – if the church community will honestly connect the dots between their belief and policy and stand for the truth. The question is not about a woman’s right. The question is whether or not the public official is for or against killing a child in the womb.

Pro-life advocates must adopt a strategy of focus on the life of the unborn child and challenge those who they influence to keep the reality of the baby at the forefront. In plain language, abortion is killing an innocent, unborn baby, snuffing out the possibility of hopes, dreams, accomplishment, and value to our world.

Cultural Impact

The Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe v Wade will have a cultural impact as well. No longer will the right to an abortion be one of those subjects that cannot be changed. Some states, such as Georgia, will restrict abortions which will create a necessity for more crisis pregnancy centers.

In the long run, the best possible cultural change would be a strengthening emphasis on fatherhood. Family is the basic institution of society and strong, stable, fathers, are the pillars of family units.

Spiritual Impact

CNN and even Fox news will not likely speak of the spiritual impact of the Supreme Court decision. The spiritual impact is as real as the words you are reading.

In the Old Testament book of Isaiah, God spoke through the prophet to the people of Israel. In chapter 5, verses 1-7, God describes how He planted the nation of Israel with an expectation that was unmet.

Verse 7 says, “he looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed, for righteousness, but behold an outcry!” (Isaiah 5:7b ESV) It is a dangerous tightrope for public officials to walk when they ignore eternal truths and establish policy as if there is no accountability to God.

George Washington, in his first inaugural address outlined the providential care of God in the founding and establishment of our independent nation. He said, “We ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of heaven cannot be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained.”

For half a century, Roe v Wade blatantly disregarded the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained. Now our nation began a correction, one state at a time, regarding the life of the innocent.

In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court revisited Roe v Wade and concluded that it is unconstitutional. We have seen the impact on our nation over the past 50 years. Now what kind of impact will we have because of this decision? I pray that as a nation, we will make good on this gift we have been given by the Supreme Court.

An Available Option

Crisp County recently joined the ranks of hundreds of other communities around the nation offering a course in religious instruction to students who are in public school. The Crisp County Center for Christian Learning, or C4 as it is commonly known, is a local organization of community leaders who desire to provide parents with an expanded educational option for their students in the public school.

Parents want the best for their children. They want them to have opportunities to learn and have a well rounded education. This is a universal desire that applies to demographic groups across the board.

In 1962 a New York state law included the text of a prayer for public schools. New York public schools were to begin each day with the prayer along with the Pledge of Allegiance. The United States Supreme Court, in Engel v. Vitale, ruled that the prayer was an unconstitutional violation of the 1st Amendment prohibiting government from establishing a religion.

For the vast majority, the public school system is the primary educational provider. Religion is one area where public schools are restricted.

That ruling led to more rulings which included prohibiting a one minute period of silent reflection, prayer at graduations, and prayer before events such as football games. School administrators often established even more restrictive policies in a precautionary mode to avoid litigation.

The 1962 decision addressed the first clause of the 1st Amendment that prohibited the government from establishing religion. It did not address the 2nd half of the clause, “or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

The Supreme Court ruled on the free exercise clause ten years earlier in the 1952 case, Zorach v. Clauson. In that case the state of New York offered a program of “Released Time Education.”

Released time allows parents to voluntarily enroll their children in a religious education program conducted off the school grounds. The public school does not pay for the facility, material, or faculty and the program is completely voluntary.

Justice William O. Douglas, in the majority opinion wrote, “We are a religious people whose institutions presuppose a Supreme Being. We guarantee the freedom to worship as one chooses.”

He went on to say that the Released Time program, “follows the best of our traditions. For it then respects the religious nature of our people and accommodates the public service to their spiritual needs. To hold that it may not would be to find in the Constitution a requirement that the government show a callous indifference to religious groups. That would be preferring those who believe in no religion over those who do believe.”

The case established three basic requirements for released time: (1) The classes had to be off the school grounds, (2) The classes had to be voluntary, and (3) no public funds could be used to support the classes.

There are no fees required to take the classes. This is a positive option. The families of Crisp County along with school administration welcomed the idea with open arms.

I first witnessed this concept in Wilcox County. Last October, I wrote a commentary entitled, “The Solution,” about one of their community events.

In Crisp County we began last January when a group of interested citizens formed the founding Board of nine members. I was asked to serve as Chairman of the Board.

The community response has been positive in every corner. Pinecrest Baptist Church offered the use of their facilities for classroom space and their vehicles for transportation. Volunteers signed up to help with scheduling volunteers to drive.

We recruited qualified teachers. Individuals and churches are donating financially to support this faith-based initiative.

The classes meet during the elective periods. We send a van to pick the children up at school after home room, transport them to the off-campus classroom, and return them to school for their next class.

Our teacher provides attendance and grades to the Middle School. The time counts toward attendance requirements as it is part of their learning experience.

Our inaugural class of 8th graders will complete the 9 week course on October 3. We already have 35 students who want to take the class in the next nine weeks.

We are asked if it will be available for high school. Our answer is that we intend to expand the program as long as the funds are available to support it.

Funding does not come from a government program. Funding comes from churches, individuals, businesses, and others who agree that this is an important investment for the community.

I see something else in this initiative in our community. It brings the community together for a positive and edifying purpose.

Over the next year, our nation is going to be bombarded with political ads and messages of division and discord. These go beyond differences in policy and political philosophy. Many of these messages will sow the seeds of class envy, victimization, fear, and prejudice.

C4 is one of many endeavors taking place across Crisp county to work together for a stronger, uplifting, vibrant, community. It is a worthy investment.

The Philosophy of Crisp County Center
for Christian Learning (C4)

The Crisp County Center for Christian Learning exists to provide Biblical based instruction in the areas of character, leadership, and personal discipline to the students of the Crisp County Public Schools.

We believe that students should be and can be an example to others in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity, and to that end, offer instruction in such Christian concepts as honoring parents, respecting authority, purity before marriage, developing trust in friendships, living a life of integrity, all while teaching leadership using biblical doctrine, examples and role models.

It is the desire of the Crisp County Center for Christian Learning that each Student be given the education in character studies, historical context, and moral reasoning using the Bible and Christian doctrine as the foundation to ensure that each student is instructed in a way that their uniqueness is embraced, and their success is promoted, with the understanding that they are valued as a Creation of God.

America – Heed the Warning

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”(Genesis 1:1) The opening words of the Bible lay a foundation on which all of mankind stands.

The account of God’s creation unfolds step by step. Everything was building toward this grand finale of the creation. God created man in the image of God.

Man was special. Man was unique. The description of man contains a characteristic unlike any other part of creation. “in our own image.” (Genesis 1:26) Man was stamped with the image of God. He was sanctified by God.

In this perfect environment, with a perfect couple, a tragic event took place. God’s perfect human beings, Adam and Eve, rejected God.

Instead of trusting in the abundant gifts of God in a perfect environment with a perfect relationship, they chose their own path. They violated the one rule that God gave.

With the fall of man, sin entered the world. Adam and Eve experienced fear and shame.

Their first child, Cain, demonstrated the pollution of sin and the fall. He experienced envy, jealousy, rage, and eventually killed his own brother.

When God handed down the 10 commandments, He included, “you shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13) God gave life. His creation was to honor life and treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Even the social consciousness movement against bullying is not a new cultural improvement. God handed down the first directive against making fun of others? “You shall not curse a deaf man, nor place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall revere your God; I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:14 NASB)

The Nation of Israel turned away from the one true God and chased after false philosophies. It led to a downward spiral of the nation that sunk to its lowest depth.

They sacrificed their own children. Their focus of attention was not on the gift of the lives of their children. Their focus was on themselves.

Things are no different today. The self-centered secular humanism has no moral absolutes. As a result, we have a nation that worships itself and fails to see the glaring inconsistency of its own behavior.

Imagine someone going on a famous talk show. Millions across the nation watch as the parents calmly talk with the host about their latest wonderful religious experience.

They vividly describe how they took their newborn baby into a decorated sanctuary. They bowed before a large statue. Then they turned and handed the infant child over to man dressed in a ceremonial robe.

The man lifted the child up high over his head and uttered words to the god he worshipped. He then placed the baby on a metal grate and turned a large valve. Natural gas freely flowed and then ignited beneath the child.

In seconds the metal grate changed to raging inferno. They reverently listened to the terrified screams of the baby until the screams finally fell to an eerie silence.

Imagine that conversation today before a live studio audience broadcast nationwide. The audience would be in shock and rage at such an event.

But then imagine a woman on the same show saying, “my body, my rights.” No, wait, we don’t have to imagine something like that. We see it every day. Her statement is usually followed by loud applause.

On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the child in the mother’s womb is not a “person.” Therefore that child has no rights under the Constitution of the United States.

Since 1973 we have seen astounding advances in science and technology. The invention of the sonogram allows someone to learn of the gender of a child long before birth.

This has led to a new line of business for party and event planners. The “reveal party” now is a part of our culture where an expectant couple holds friends and family in suspense before revealing the gender of the baby, still months before birth.

We have a generation of children who grew up seeing sonogram images of little brother or sister. America’s plea of ignorance on the question of when life begins was weak in 1973. There is no basis for a plea of ignorance today.

The five year old brother standing in awe before the refrigerator looking first at his mother’s growing stomach and then at the sonogram image of his little sister taped to the refrigerator door instinctively knows better. We know better too, and we are accountable.

Just a matter of weeks ago, the state legislature in Ohio passed a bill that prohibited an abortion after the detection of a heartbeat in the baby. A heartbeat is a basic sign of life. Checking for a pulse is one of the immediate actions taken by a first responder at the scene of an accident.

Lawmakers in Ohio recognized that basic sign of life. They overwhelmingly passed a law recognizing that a child with a heartbeat had the right to live.

Governor John Kasich, a Republican, vetoed the bill. His reasoning relied on an outdated Supreme Court ruling.

Instead of standing for life and challenging the ruling, he unconditionally surrendered and vetoed the bill. Kasich claims to be pro-life. He ran as a pro-life candidate.

When it came down to it, Kasich thrust aside his trust and reliance in the infallible Supreme Ruler of the Universe. He bowed before black-robed fallible, human beings, and a terribly flawed ruling.

Each of the two major political parties have taken a clear position on an unborn child’s right to life. They published their positions in their campaign platforms for all to see.

The Democrats want to provide tax funding for abortion on demand. The Republican platform stands on the side of the child clearly stating “The unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed.”

Democrats also stand to defend the horrific practices of Planned Parenthood. “We will continue to stand up to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood health centers.” Republicans call for the defunding Planned Parenthood and “to make it a crime to acquire, transfer, or sell fetal tissues from elective abortions for research.”

As if mere killing was not enough, Planned Parenthood and other organizations determined that if they killed the baby in just the right manner, they could butcher the body and sell the parts to highest bidder. With every innocent life brutally dismembered, there is a terrified, helpless, cry from a child fighting for his or her very life.

Those cries fall on deaf human ears. Be assured that God is not deaf. The cries of the millions of innocent babies callously killed as if a sacrifice to a god of convenience rise to His throne of justice.

Our nation cannot continue down this path without consequence. The just and righteous Creator who watched over us and formed this nation of freedom is filled with grace beyond all measure. He is also a God of justice who will pour out His wrath.

God cares enough to warn those who make fun of a deaf or blind person. How much more does He have to say to a nation with the blood of over 60 million innocent lives on its hands?

Here is a clear warning. “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:31) America had best heed the warning.

Two Days in January – Part 1

There are two significant dates in the month of January that impact America. No, one of them is not the Superbowl.

One is a day in which we recognize the life of a man who led a movement for justice and freedom. He forced America to face the evil of discriminating against people based on the color of their skin. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on the third Monday in January.

The other is a dark day in American history. It is not a federal holiday and is not one to be celebrated with joy.

On the contrary, it should be acknowledged with repentance and deep sorrow. It should be acknowledged with a cry to the Almighty for forgiveness.

That day is January 22, 1973. On that day that the Supreme Court of the United States shook its fist in the face of the Supreme ruler of the Universe by ruling that unborn children were not persons, therefore did not have the unalienable right of life.

What an irony of American history. One day celebrating the righting of the terrible wrong of racism. Another day, that ruled that an unborn child had no more rights than a housefly crushed to death with a swat as a mere nuisance.

That dreadful decision unleashed the holocaust of abortion. Planned Parenthood and other abortionists have brutally killed millions since that decision.

This commentary is focused on the day we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 15, 1929 a mother gave birth to a boy in Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of 39, his life was cut down in Memphis, Tennessee by the bullet fired by James Earl Ray, a hate-filled, evil, cowardly, sniper.

I just read Dr. King’s, “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” dated April 16, 1963. It is his response to a published statement by eight clergymen It is said that he wrote it on the margins of a newspaper and on scraps of paper.

Tweets, memes, and 30 second sound bites are the basic literature of today’s culture. They usually degrade to name calling and insults.

We should regularly set those temporary blurbs aside lest they drag us down along with them. We should take the time to read on deeper, more thoughtful, literature, such as the Bible, biographies, and the writing of great thinkers and leaders that will stand the test of time.

King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” is one of those writings that will stand the test of time. I was particularly impressed with a section of his letter that addressed the state of the church in American society.

It was written over a half century ago. It could have been written yesterday. I have highlighted phrases of particular impact.

There was a time when the church was very powerful — in the time when the early Christians rejoiced at being deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed. In those days the church was not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society. Whenever the early Christians entered a town, the people in power became disturbed and immediately sought to convict the Christians for being “disturbers of the peace” and “outside agitators.” But the Christians pressed on, in the conviction that they were “a colony of heaven,” called to obey God rather than man. Small in number, they were big in commitment. They were too God-intoxicated to be “astronomically intimidated.”By their effort and example they brought an end to such ancient evils as infanticide and gladiatorial contests.

Things are different now. So often the contemporary church is a weak, ineffectual voice with an uncertain sound. So often it is an arch-defender of the status quo. Far from being disturbed by the presence of the church, the power structure of the average community is consoled by the church’s silent — and often even vocal — sanction of things as they are.
But the judgment of God is upon the church as never before. If today’s church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authenticity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century.

If I attempted to add anything to his commentary on the church, it would only dilute the power of the message. I encourage you to read Dr. King’s complete letter. You can find it here: “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

On Tuesday, I will address Roe v Wade, the day of sorrow for America.

They Were Supposed to Quit

They were supposed to quit. It didn’t happen. A few hours from now, the Senate will be voting on the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. According to the Democrat playbook, this vote was never supposed to take place.

It worked for them in the past. This time something happened to the Republicans in the Senate and the Democrats do not know what to do.

The strategy was simple. Even before the nomination, Democrats announced opposition because the nominee was out of the main stream. It did not matter who the nominee was. It did not matter what the nominee’s record was. Whoever the nominee was, would be too far to the right.

Added to that the Democrats pointed to the upcoming mid-term elections and invoked the Merrick Garland case from 2016. The fact that President Trump asked for conservative think tanks to help him identify candidates gave Democrats even more ammunition.

By the time the confirmation hearings began, the mainstream media was already saturated with stories of how Kavanaugh did not fit with mainstream America. This was followed by calls from Democrat leadership for the President to withdraw his nomination and submit another nominee who could be confirmed by both sides of the aisle in a bi-partisan manner that would make America proud.

In the past, Democrats were successful with this strategy. Democrats could always find a few Republicans who appeared to be most concerned about what the mainstream media talking heads said about them. They would wring their hands in anguish at the division and contention. These Republicans were quick to chastise both sides in general terms but generally only pointed the finger at fellow Republicans in specific terms.

This time it was not working. President Trump supported his nominee and Kavanaugh indicated that he intended to stay.

The hearings ended and Democrats saw that confirmation was likely unless something drastic happened to derail the vote. Senator Dianne Feinstein had been holding a letter from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford alleging that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted and attempted to rape her when they were in high school.

While only a few Democrats and no Republicans knew about the letter, somehow it was mysteriously leaked to the press. Kavanaugh immediately asked to testify again to clear his name and meanwhile more reports started flowing in.

Democrats cried that the seriousness of the allegations made him unfit. They demanded investigations to get to the truth. Of course, the investigations could take months or years. They called on the President to clear the cloud, withdraw Kavanaugh, and submit another nominee.

The Judiciary Committee scheduled a hearing for Ford and Kavanaugh to testify. Judge Kavanaugh gave a powerful statement of his innocence. Democrats pressed for a thorough FBI investigation.

When it was time to vote, Republican Jeff Flake said that he would vote yes to send it to the floor of the Senate but stipulated that he wanted the FBI to do another background investigation related to this allegation. He said that it should be done in a week.

The additional week gave the Democrats more time to oppose the confirmation. When it became increasingly clear that there was zero evidence to corroborate any of the allegations, the argument turned to judicial temperament.

Democrats provided talking points and paid protesters flooded the capitol shouting profanities and creating chaos. The obvious solution to end the chaos and bring peace was for Kavanaugh to withdraw.

To the relief, (and quite frankly, amazement,) of conservatives across the nation, Senate Republicans stood together. Lindsey Graham gave a scathing speech during Judge Kavanaugh’s testimony. Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley pointedly called out Feinstein for holding the letter from Dr. Ford for weeks and not allowing it to be confidentially investigated. Majority leader Mitch McConnell steadily and methodically kept the process moving forward. Even Senator Susan Collins, in a measured and reasonable presentation, chastised the Democrats for vowing to fight the nominee before even knowing who was nominated.

The Democrats believed that Kavanaugh would throw up his hands in disgust at the vile ugliness of the negative publicity. They believed that some Republicans would acquiesce and join them to lift the cloud of uncertainly by rejecting Judge Kavanaugh. They believed that perhaps the President would withdraw his nomination. Not one of those things happened.

The bright light of truth revealed the nauseating Democrat strategy in its stark nakedness. There will be a vote today. There will be another vote on November 6 and the American people will pass judgment at the ballot box. Democrats and talking heads in main stream media will still be muttering to themselves, “They were supposed to quit.”

Republican Enablers

Senator Jeff Flake is enabling the very behavior he claims to despise. Under the masquerade of a bipartisan effort, Flake said that he would not vote for the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh unless there was an FBI investigation. He said, “This country is being ripped apart here. We have to be sure we do due diligence.”

Fortunately he did put a boundary on his request. He said that it should be no more than 5 days.

Once Flake folded, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski followed his lead with a call for an FBI investigation. West Virginia Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin III, had been leaning toward confirmation.

With Flake and Murkowski providing coverage, Manchin and Maine Republican Susan Collins joined the chorus calling for the FBI to investigate. These Senators are being played.

Get ready for more confusion. Flake said no more than five days. Democrats will ignore Flake’s compromise of no more than five days.

Be prepared to hear cries for a thorough investigation which obviously will take months. In addition, be prepared for new allegations. New allegations will lead to calls for more hearings and more delays.

I would not be shocked to see a formal complaint filed in Montgomery County, Maryland accusing Judge Kavanaugh of attempted rape. Then the question will be how could the Senate possibly move forward with a candidate who has a criminal record.

Democrats are adding another talking point. Following Kavanaugh’s powerful statement and testimony, the new talking point is that he does not have the temperament to sit on the Supreme Court.

Jeff Flake, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins are enabling the most atrocious behavior by a political party in the history of our nation. This is not bipartisanship. It is not statesmanlike.

President Trump has ordered a supplemental background investigation on the allegation. You can take this to the bank – the results of the background check will not be accepted by Democrats.

Judge Kavanaugh will suffer for another week. He is committed and is facing this with a firm resolve. We need to stand with him with that same resolve and show up in November in an unstoppable wave at the ballot box.

The American people are not fools. They see what is going on. In November, they will rise up again as they did in 2016.

Senator Flake is concerned about the country being ripped apart. He just handed Democrats another opportunity to leave America even more torn after another week of their manufacture and destroy mission.

He does not need to be wringing his hands and complaining about the lack of civility in Washington. He needs to look in the mirror because he is the one enabling it.

Execution by Paper Cut

Democrats are trying to execute Brett Kavanaugh by paper cut. They have been very clear about their goal to stop his confirmation. They intentionally hid an allegation of sexual assault for weeks. The sole reason was to throw it out as a last minute Hail Mary pass to delay the Senate Judiciary Committee vote.

Witnesses named by the accuser have denied knowing anything about the alleged event. Judge Kavanaugh immediately issued a strong denial and asked to testify before the Judiciary Committee.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Grassley made extraordinary accommodations for the accuser to offer testimony to the committee. The first hint came on September 13, after the committee had completed hearings. A vote was scheduled for the following week, September 20.

It was then that Senator Fienstein revealed that she had turned over a letter to investigators from an anonymous source about an anonymous matter. Unnamed sources stated that it was an allegation of sexual misconduct by Judge Kavanaugh.

Over the weekend, the accuser was identified as Christine Blasey Ford. She said that she wanted to testify. The scheduled vote for Thursday the 20th was cancelled and a hearing was set for Monday the 24th.

With each new day, new excuses and demands arose from Ford’s attorney. Then another accusation came out from Deborah Ramirez. Democrats immediately called for more delays and more conditions. The hearing was rescheduled to Thursday the 27th for Ford and Kavanaugh both to testify.

Meanwhile, not wanting to be left out, Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti, popped out of the clown car and announced that he also has someone ready to come forward in the next 48 hours.

Fortunately, Senator Grassley has put his foot down. Thursday, September 27 is the date for the hearing. I still doubt that Ford will show up for the hearing.

Grassley has scheduled a vote for Friday. Senate Republicans are poised to start the full Senate confirmation vote debate on Saturday. Until the Senate finally has a confirmation vote, we may as well get accustomed to hearing outrageous claims from all corners.

Democrats hoped that Kavanaugh would give up and quit. Thankfully, he is not quitting. He is standing firm while Democrats are trying to execute by paper cut.

Democrat Houses of Cards Are About to Collapse

Monday, September 17, 2018 will be recorded as a bad day for Democrats. They have built houses of cards that are about to collapse.

First, the accusation of Brett Kavanaugh. It began to break before the weekend from Senator Dianne Feinstein of a serious report of an anonymous incident by a person who wished to remain anonymous.

Senator Feinstein had the information since July but never said anything about it until the hearings were over. That alone proves her disingenuous intent.

Kavanaugh Won’t Be Borked

In 1987, Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell announced his retirement from the Supreme Court. Powell was considered to be a moderate swing vote in close decisions.

President Ronald Reagan nominated Robert Bork who was serving in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Judge Bork was considered eminently qualified.

He held to the judicial philosophy of originalism which is that the Constitution should be interpreted based on the text of the Constitution and what it meant to a reasonable person at the time it was adopted.

The Constitution itself provided an avenue for making changes through a legislative process. His view stood in stark contrast to a judicial activist philosophy that sees the Constitution as a living document whose meaning changes with time. Continue reading

I May Be Proved Wrong About the Nuclear Option

Over two months ago, I predicted that there would be no nuclear option in the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch. (See February 1, 2017 – “There Will Not Be a Nuclear Option”) It now appears that I may be proven wrong. I still find it hard to believe that the Democrats will take this Kamikaze dive.

Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, is one of the strongest advocates of Senate decorum and tradition. On April 2, 2017 Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, McConnell made it crystal clear that Judge Gorsuch will be confirmed.
