Congressman Sees His Constituents as Helpless

In a recent editorial, Congressman Sanford Bishop decried the 2018 federal budget submitted by President Trump. He wrote that the proposal would be a “recipe for disaster” for the people of the Second Congressional District of Georgia.

Bishop said that his metric for analyzing legislation is whether or not it improves the lives of the people of Southwest Georgia. His editorial reveals his view of the citizens of Southwest Georgia as being helpless and totally dependent on the federal government. Continue reading

The Opportunity School District Amendment Grows Bureacracy

This November you will have a decision to make on the Georgia Constitution. One of the Constitutional amendments will be to ratify an amendment relating to failing schools. Here is what you will see on the ballot:

Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended to allow the state to intervene in chronically failing public schools in order to improve student performance?
( ) Yes
( ) No

A one question description is inadequate to fully explain the impact of a yes or a no vote. A simple reading of the text above would likely generate a response of “of course!”

How Government is Like a Wildfire

 Smokey the Bear says, “Only you can prevent wildfire.” Fire is one of the most valuable chemical reactions known to man. It can heat your home, cook your food, and power your automobile. It can also be one of the most destructive forces known to man.

If it is not tightly controlled, the same fire that provides warmth, can burn your home down with you and your loved ones inside. Fire has an insatiable appetite for oxygen and fuel. It does not care where it gets it.

Is the GOP Killing the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg?

I first saw the post on Facebook from Erick Erickson. Then Todd Rehm wrote about it in his morning update in the Georgia Pundit. On the last day of the session, a conference committee sent a bill (SB 127) that regulates anyone spending money on any “election advocacy and election targeted issue advocacy.”

Section 19 of the bill targets “any communication made at any time that: (A) Contains express words, such as ‘vote,’ ‘oppose,’ ‘support,’ ‘elect,’ ‘defeat,’ or ‘reject’, …. (B) Otherwise refers to or depicts one or more clearly identified candidates, political parties or bodies, or constitutional amendments, referenda, or other questions submitted to the voters.” Continue reading
