Why I Support Karen Handel

I have been reading a book published by Hillsdale College entitled, The US Constitution, A Reader. The book is a compilation of original writings by our founding fathers and those who influenced their thinking.

You may wonder what this has to do with the title of this post – “Why I Support Karen Handel.” It is a reminder that the platform on which Karen stands is not something new. Her philosophy is grounded in the same philosophy documented over two centuries ago.

In George Washington’s Farewell address, he warned of gradual alterations in Constitutional powers of the government by unauthorized means.

“If in the opinion of the People, the distribution or modification of the Constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this, in one instance, may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed.”

The Obama administration attempted to erode the Constitutional checks and balances on the Executive branch with Executive Orders that circumvented the Constitutional legislative process. For years the Judicial branch has overreached its authority.

The Gorsuch hearings gave clear evidence of Democrat strategy to utilize the judiciary to create new law. Judge Gorsuch firmly stood ground that his job was to interpret, not make, law. He suggested several times that Congress was free to pass legislation that would accomplish their purposes. He made it clear that making law was for Congress, not a judge.

George Washington also clearly addressed the matter of religion in the public square.

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and citizen…. And let us with caution indulge the supposition, that morality can be maintained without religion.”

In his farewell address, Washington also spoke of the national debt with words that ring true today.

“As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit. One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible….it is essential that you should practically bear in mind, that towards the payment of debts there must be Revenue; that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant…”

Washington expressed even more thoughts about government that ring true today as they did in his day. James Madison wrote an essay entitled, “On Property” in which he warned of government regulation.

“What must be the spirit of legislation where a manufacturer of linen cloth is forbidden to bury his own child in a linen shroud, in order to favor his neighbor who manufactures woolen cloth; where the manufacturer and wearer of woolen cloth are again forbidden the economical use of buttons of that material in favor of the manufacturer of buttons of other materials!”

I have listed just four topics: Constitutional Integrity, Religious Principles in the Public Square, National Debt, and Runaway Regulation. Karen Handel stands firmly on the same platform as our founding fathers.

Democrats are pouring money from everywhere into our state in an effort to sell to the people of the 6th District of Georgia a puppet, not a representative. Georgians in every Congressional District need to support Karen Handel to the fullest extent possible. You can have confidence in Karen Handel.

Your investment, no matter how small or large, is an investment in conservative philosophy. It is the same our founding fathers expressed in the Constitution and other foundational writings of our nation.

This is bigger than a political party. This is bigger than a Congressional race. The results of this election will send a powerful message across the nation. Help Karen make sure that it is a conservative message.
