Day of Prayer – March 15, 2020

Yesterday, President Trump declared today, March 15, 2020, as a National Day of Prayer for all Americans Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic and for our National Response Efforts. I am including a link to the President’s Proclamation at the end of this note.

Our National Motto is, “In God We Trust.” It is in times of emergency or uncertainty that we return to those four simple words.

For our nation, those four simple words are more than just a motto. They are in our very DNA as Americans. Our motto can be traced back to the final sentence in the Declaration of Independence. “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.”

In his proclamation, President Trump quoted two verses of Scripture. 1 Peter 5:7: “Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.” Luke 1:37 : “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Around the nation, public gatherings for worship are being curtailed or limited but there will be prayers. There will be more prayers for our nation and the people of the world than usual today.

Not everyone will be gathering in public places, but we will be gathered in Spirit and truth.  Luke 1:37 identifies the true source of the solution to this virus – “with God.”

As you read this, pause right now and pray for those who have the Covid-19 virus, those doctors, nurses, caregivers, and scientists conducting research. Pray for the President, his team, governors, and local officials who are calmly leading our citizens.

We are using every resource of technology and human knowledge available to us. President Trump, in his Proclamation, reminds us of our true source of hope. In God We Trust.
