Vets to Vote

Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Retired USMC Major General James E. Livingston

I am a veteran and I vote. I served four years in the US Army, two in the Panama Canal Zone and two at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah.

My Military Occupational Skill (MOS) was Military Police Investigator. One of the skills for an investigator was the ability to type. This was long before the days of the personal computer.

Fortunately I learned to type while a student in Mrs. Ophie Perdue’s class at Warner Robins High School. One of our practice lines was, “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.”

Today that phrase is more than a line to practice keyboard skills. It is an imperative call for freedom. It is a call with a sense of urgency. It is a call for help. It is a call from our nation.

I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about a group that I am working with to get out the vote. The Georgia Veterans Association is specifically making that imperative, urgent, call to all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their country by going to vote.

When you look at Georgiavets.org, you will see that I am on the Board. Let me assure you that Board members are receiving no compensation. This is our patriotic duty.

Veterans invested their lives to serve our fellow Americans. We took an oath to defend her against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Callers with the Georgia Veterans Association have personally made thousands of calls to veterans in counties with high veteran population. Our message is two-fold. One is to encourage the veterans to report for duty at the ballot box. The other is a simple buddy-check on a fellow veteran.

If you are not directly engaged in getting voters to the polls, then this is an opportunity to help. You do not have to be a veteran to help and support this effort.

I encourage you to check out the Georgia Veterans Association. Sign up for e-mails and learn about practical ways you can help veterans.

Right now we are laser focused on a single mission. We would appreciate your help in our mission – Vets to Vote.
