Considering Another Run in 2022

Don Cole considers another run for Congress in 2022

Isaiah 30:21 says, “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” So I am listening for that word.

Let me say again how much I am honored at your support in my campaign for Congress. My commitment was to deliver a conservative message to every county in the 2nd District.

You helped me do that and I talked with people in every county. We had three district tours in the final weeks of the campaign.

Many of you encouraged me to run again. My friend, Danny Blackmon, in Quitman county put it well when he said that I built a lot of capital in my first campaign.

After the run-off election in January, I stepped away and unplugged from just about everything political for a while. Being quiet and listening for that still small voice and that guidance is mandatory.

I have not closed the Cole for Congress campaign account. I am considering, listening, and seeking guidance on 2022.

There are several key factors at play. Some on a personal family level. Others are political and practical.

A major factor is that the legislature will be redrawing the Congressional districts to adjust the population of each district. Georgia’s population has grown significantly.

The 2nd District has not. Rural Georgia’s decline in population is a major issue and I will talk more about that later.

For reapportionment, it means that to get the people, the district gets geographically larger. Obviously, we cannot go West because we are on the Alabama line. We cannot go South because we are on the Florida line.

There are only two directions, North and East. Keep in mind that the 3rd is to the North and the 8th is to the East. It is like a balloon and a real challenge to the legislature to even out the districts within the borders of the state.

The census numbers will not be available until April. It could be this fall before we know how legislature draws these lines. I do not intend to wait that long before making any final decision.

You also play a role in my decision. I always appreciate the counsel from others when listening for God’s direction.

Thank you for reading. I plan to keep writing and talking about the important matters of life.

May God bless you, and have a great day!
