Don Cole Qualified for Office

The late Tip O’Neill, Speaker of the US House of Representatives during the Reagan Administration, once said, “All politics is local.” He even wrote a book by that title.

Local politics is government closest to home. You can see news reports about events around the world, but you feel it when your car hits that pothole in the street, or the garbage truck runs late.

Because “all politics is local,” I qualified for Ward 3, Cordele City Commission last Friday, August 20. One of the key factors in my decision to run was the census report on Crisp County.

We lost over 3,000 in population. Here we are on a major interstate highway, multiple railroads, and an inland port, and we are not growing.

This is not just a city problem. It is not just a county problem. It is our problem and we need a fresh set of eyes on the issue with a focus on working together to get us back on track. I have a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience to offer.

I began my life in public service at the age of 19 when I enlisted in the United States Army in 1972. For all I knew my next stop would be Vietnam. Fortunately I went to the Panama Canal Zone.

The GI bill to helped me earn a Master of Public Administration degree and I served in city and county government roles. I also earned a Master of Divinity and served in churches in Georgia and on the foreign mission field of Panama.

I have had the honor of being appointed by the Governor to serve on the boards of the Georgia Department of Human Resources and as Chairman of the Board for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. In addition to these state government positions, I also served at the federal level as the speechwriter for US Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue. I have strong relationships with leaders at all levels in local, state, and federal government.

Locally, I am Chairman of the Board of the Crisp County Ministers Association, Chairman of the Crisp County Center for Christian Learning (a released time Christian educational program provided at no cost to students or taxpayers, for 7th and 8th grade Crisp County Middle School Students as elective courses.) I am on the Crisp Family Connections Council.

Politically, I have been Chairman of the Crisp County Republican Party. I was the 2020 Republican nominee for the US House of Representatives.

I bring to the table the unique blend of public service and knowing how government works with a pastor’s perspective of individual needs and what is really important in life. I want to invest in the people of Cordele and I promise you that no one will work harder for you than I will.

I will be going around Ward 3, listening to your needs. Please feel free to send me an e-mail  – don@doncole.com or call or text me at 229-291-7114.

If you live in Ward 3, I ask for your vote this November. If you don’t live in Ward 3 but know someone who lives there, I ask for your positive influence.
