Sickening Surrender

Sometime on Monday afternoon, I began to experience a sickening feeling. The last American aircraft was flying out of Kabul.

Hundreds of Americans were still stuck in Afghanistan having been refused entry to the airport. Most will hopefully be allowed to leave the country after September 1 when it is clear that the Taliban, not the United States, gave them permission to leave.

It is likely that some will be detained, perhaps even incarcerated for alleged espionage or other crimes against the ruling authorities. The State Department and President will perform the official wringing of hands and say that it is unacceptable.

That line of “unacceptable” has always made me laugh. How can it be unacceptable if we are accepting it by doing nothing?

My heart hurts the most though for the Afghans who will be living in terror. We cannot imagine what it is like for armed militants going door to door seeking out anyone they wish to identify as an enemy of the state.

I can assure you there will be no video of brutality to gain sympathy. Neighbors will hear shots or screams or perhaps witness a public beheading just to leave a message.

There will be no constitutional rights. The search warrants will be the bottom of a boot kicking in a door.

Through all of this, the Squad and the Woke crowd will remain silent. There will be no marches or protests for LGBT rights. No lives will matter except the lives that the Taliban wishes to matter.

America should have known that our great two decade experiment in freedom and democracy would fail. There must be a foundation on which to build a free nation.

The foundation of the Taliban is fear and terror. The Afghans themselves will have to stand against that and it will take a bold stand that fights fire with fire.

It will require a resolve that will come from within their own people. I do not see that resolve materializing.

For now, I just want to see our Americans get home safely. Until they do, Americans back home will continue to experience the feelings of sickening surrender.
