The Pig Painting is a Disgrace

Painting of Police Officers as PigsA painting hangs in the halls of Congress, the People’s House, that depicts police officers as pigs pointing their pistols at African-Americans. The painting is part of a student art competition and put on display by Missouri Democrat Lacy Clay.

After receiving complaints from law enforcement agencies, California Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter took action. He removed the painting from the wall and returned it to Clay’s office.

“It is Over”

I watched C-SPAN coverage of the certification of electoral votes today. Our Republic continues to function in the transition of power. Vice-President Joe Biden as President of the Senate presided over the recording of votes from each state. The House selected two members and the Senate selected two members as tellers.

Beginning with the first state, Alabama, Democrats in the House of Representatives rose to object to the Electoral votes. Vice-President Biden repeatedly called the objections out of order and read from the Section 15 and 17 of the US Code indicating that objections must be in writing and signed by a member of the House and a member of the Senate. Objectors did not have a signature from a Senator.

The Empty Chair

Christmas is supposed to be a time of great joy and happiness. This year is different for many. You probably know some for whom it is different but do not realize it, or maybe it just slips past you in all the hustle and bustle of the year. It is quite possible that you are one of those for whom Christmas is different.

There is a special chair in someone’s home that is empty this year. It may be the straight back chair at the dinner table, the office chair at the desk in the study, the lazy boy in the den, or some other special spot. It was a favorite for him or her.

After States Cast Electoral Votes CNN Still Poses Scenarios

In the movie, Dumb and Dumber, the character, Lloyd Christmas wants to know the chances of a guy like him connecting with a girl like Mary Swanson. She clearly doesn’t want to hurt his feelings but he presses the issue and she finally tells him that the chances are like one out of a million. Lloyd confidently responds, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance. YEAH!”

Since the Presidential election, we have watched the main stream media, particularly CNN, live out the role of Lloyd Christmas. Electors in states across the nation cast their votes for President on Monday, December 19, 2016 and Donald Trump was officially elected as President by a majority of electors.

Infamy

SSG John D. Barker US Army 1941 – 1945

As I begin writing this article, it is the same time that 75 years ago today, nearly 2,500 sailors, soldiers, and marines lives would be tragically and suddenly ended or changed forever. A carefree assignment on an island paradise in the Pacific turned into a fury of chaos, confusion, and death.

Scott Barker and I served in the US Army Military Police together in the 1970’s. After his service in the Army, Scott joined the FBI and has now retired.

Scott’s late father, SSG John D. Barker – US Army 1941 – 1945, was at Pearl Harbor on that day. Scott’s father did not talk much about it until his later years.

The Awe of Christmas

Small child gazing in awe at a Christmas Tree

There is nothing like the twinkle in a child’s eyes gazing at a Christmas tree. Words like awe, wonder, amazement, peace, warmth, joy, and love are feeble efforts to capture the feelings of Christmas.

The deluge of news and events at home and abroad can drown the simple wonder of the Christmas season. Negativity abounds.  King Solomon’s writings in Ecclesiastes reminds us that things in this world remain strikingly the same across time.

The Mayflower Compact and Thanksgiving

In 1620 a small group booked passage on the Mayflower to go to the new world. Shortly before their arrival in the new world, the leaders joined together to sign a mutual compact. 41 men on board the ship signed the compact. It set forth the purpose of their voyage and their agreement to self government.

The Mayflower Compact became the seed of a radically new form of government that nearly two centuries later would be known as the United States of America. You have heard of the Mayflower Compact. Have you read it? It is three brief paragraphs.

The Day After Election – My Predictions

Election day is finally here. Tomorrow your in-box should see a significant drop in e-mails frantically asking for money and revealing multiple wrongdoings by Hillary along with various and sundry conspiracy theories.

If you have not already voted, then go get in line and stay there until you vote. I was the first in-person early voter to cast my vote in Crisp County.

Georgia Bureacrats Run Amok in Maniacal Ignorance of Religious Freedom

Last year Governor Nathan Deal vetoed a reasonable bill to defend religious freedom in Georgia. He knew about instances of Georgia government leaders making decisions relying on political correctness instead of the law.

Early in Governor Deal’s administration, the Commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources ordered that all Gideon Bibles be removed from the hotel rooms of state park lodges and hotels. Governor Deal, himself, had to step in to overturn that foolish decision.

Now, the State of Georgia is entangled in a federal discrimination lawsuit. The suit was filed by an African American former District Health Director for the Department of Public Health in 2014.

Dr. Eric Walsh came with stellar commendations from his position in California. He happens to be a 7th Day Adventist lay minister.
