Preachers and Politics – No Subject is Off Limits

Be assured, God is not deaf to the cries of the millions of innocent babies callously killed as if a sacrifice to the god of convenience. Then as if mere killing was not enough, Planned Parenthood and other organizations determined that if they killed the baby is just the right manner, they could butcher the body and sell the parts to highest bidder.

Our nation cannot continue down this path and expect that there will not be consequences from the just and righteous Creator who watched over us and formed this nation of freedom. Do not think for a moment that the great United States of America cannot fall under God’s judgment.

Donald Trump – “I Will Appoint Pro-Life Judges”

In the final debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, both candidates were asked to give an impromptu one minute closing statement. Moderator Chris Wallace explained that there had been no plan for the candidates to prepare a closing statement.

Donald Trump delivered the best summation of his candidacy in that one minute response. He directly addressed African Americans and Latinos pointing out the hypocrisy of the Democrats who made promise after promise to get their votes.

Who Will Fill the Void?

Who will fill the void? The language and tone of the political season has deteriorated to a repugnant cesspool. Most of us grew up being taught the value of good manners, treating others with respect, and having humility.

Name calling and making fun of others was a punishable offense. So, it is understandable to hear people wish for the campaign season to be over. They just want the conflict to finally end for a season at least.

The Trump Tapes Did Not and Will Not Derail the Trump Train

I was paying more attention to the weather channel than other news over the weekend. It was not until Sunday morning that I received an e-mail asking for my take on the latest that Trump said.

My first thought was, “what did he tweet this time?” My google search revealed that there was a lot of activity about a tape from 2005 and the locker room language Trump used.

Professor Perdue Leads Revolt in Senate Nursery

Last week, Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina referred to Freshman Georgia Senator David Perdue as a “Two year old politician.” The context of that reference was a series of speeches on the Senate floor about the budget process.

Senator Perdue has spent months quietly working with his senate colleagues to address the budget process.Then, on September 28, he scheduled the time for the Freshman Senators to join him.

In the fashion of a learned professor, he lectured the seasoned Senators about the budget. He used plain, common sense language. Just a few quotes below:

Annette Bowling the Heart of a Servant (1936 – 2016)

Annette Bowling stepped into eternity last Wednesday. She was the founder and Executive Director of the Albany Advocacy Resource Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

There will be a lot written about Annette Bowling. I remember hearing of an account in her life that sums up the heart of a servant. It was not meeting with Governors, Senators, Representatives, or even Presidents. It had to do with a simple cocktail napkin.

What can a cocktail napkin tell you about service? In the hands of the right person it can tell you a lot.

Annette Bowling once visited a foreign country. Paper products were scarce and she was staying with a very poor family.

Proposed Amendment # 1 – Opportunity School District

Proposed Amendment # 2 – Georgia Additional Penalties for Sex Crimes to Fund Services for Sexually Exploited Children

Proposed Amendment # 4 – Uses of Revenue from Taxes on Fireworks

Just a little review on the process to amend the Constitution. A resolution to amend the Constitution must receive a 2/3 vote in the Georgia House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate. If the resolution meets that super majority in both House and Senate, then it goes to the voters to ratify by a simple majority.

Constitution Day and How We Have Strayed

On September 17, 1787, delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the United States Constitution to send it to the states for ratification. The major issue in the discussion of the new Constitution was representation. States with larger population wanted representation based on population. States with smaller populations feared being overpowered by a few states and called for equal representation for each state.

The Connecticut Compromise gave us the legislative organization that we have today. The House of Representatives is based on population. The Senate provides two votes for each state regardless of size. This presents the unusual situation for seven states, Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming having more Senators than members in the House of Representatives.

Fifteen Years Later

Fifteen years ago we were viciously attacked.  The enemy was not a nation with a flag.  It was an ideology of hate and domination.  We witnessed heroic actions of Americans.

Today we remember and honor those who fell on that day as well as those who have since fallen in the war against terror. We pray for those who are still fighting that war.
On that day in 2001 and the days following, America came together.  Images of fire fighters raising the American flag in the rubble of the Twin Towers displayed our resolve.

Veterans Group Questions Bishop’s Military Service

A Veterans group blog site recently filed a Freedom of Information request regarding Congressman Sanford Bishop’s claim to be an Army veteran. They posted the response on their blog and the Facebook page of the 2nd District Republican Party.

Congressman Bishop’s official biography reads, “He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971; completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, entered Advanced Reserve Officers Training, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1971.”
