Sixth District – Why Vote Early

Early voting opened today in the 6th Congressional District runoff. I live in the 2nd District and will not be able to cast a vote in this election. For those who do live in the 6th, I encourage you to vote early.

There are many, myself included, who believe that voting should be on election day except for absentees. Election day only voting would reduce the opportunity for fraudulent voting.

As much as I believe that, the fact is that early voting is a reality. Disagreeing with early voting and waiting until election day will not change early voting.

Republicans have always done well on election day voting. Democrats historically have a slight advantage in early voting. Republicans need dominate both. Here is why I encourage you to vote early.

Republicans – Take a Lesson from Democrats

I was once asked what got me involved in Republican politics.  My answer is easy: Bill Clinton and the Democrat party.

When the Monica Lewinski affair came out Bill Clinton angrily shook his finger at the television camera and the American people denying any impropriety.  While I did not believe a word he was saying, I counted it as just politics.

Then he testified to the Grand Jury and again blatantly lied.  Not only did he lie, but it was evident that the Clintons made threats and went after those who told the truth.  At that point it was no longer just politics.

We Won! Stop Playing Defense!

There has been a visceral reaction from conservatives at the budget bill that will fund the government through the end of the year.  President Trump and Republicans campaigned on several key issues including repeal and replacement of Obamacare, defunding Planned Parenthood, Sanctuary Cities, and building the wall.

The appointment and subsequent confirmation of Judge Gorsuch was a key victory. Executive orders that overturned Obama’s Executive orders were victories.

On the Legislative front, the movement has been slow at best.  The voters who flooded the polling places to vote for Trump and Republicans are losing patience.

2nd District Unanimously Supports Handel in 6th

On Saturday, April 22, 2017, Republicans in Fourteen Congressional Districts across Georgia held District Conventions.  The Second Congressional District unanimously adopted a resolution supporting Karen Handel in the special election runoff on June 20th. Many at the convention also backed the resolution with checks and on-line donations to Karen’s campaign.

Congressman Sees His Constituents as Helpless

In a recent editorial, Congressman Sanford Bishop decried the 2018 federal budget submitted by President Trump. He wrote that the proposal would be a “recipe for disaster” for the people of the Second Congressional District of Georgia.

Bishop said that his metric for analyzing legislation is whether or not it improves the lives of the people of Southwest Georgia. His editorial reveals his view of the citizens of Southwest Georgia as being helpless and totally dependent on the federal government.

Lessons Learned from Obamacare Replacement

The talking heads and pundits have pointed their fingers and cast the blame on the “failure” of the Obamacare legislation vote that Speaker Ryan cancelled last Friday. I do not see productive value for the American people and the Republican Party in the finger pointing and blame.

It is beneficial to take a look at what happened and learn from the process. Three words summarize what happened: Communicated, Complicated, and Confidence.

Tell Us Where You Stand Congressman Bishop

Congressman Sanford Bishop has stated that he is pro-life. Evidence proves otherwise. On January 24, 2017, the US House of Representatives voted to permanently prohibit federal funds for abortion. Sanford Bishop voted against the bill two times.

In 2015, Sanford Bishop voted twice to support Planned Parenthood. The issue will come up again.

The Deception of Unity

Following every election candidates, both winning and losing, make statements about being united as Americans. They say that it is now time to unite as one for the common good.

In past elections, even when Republicans won, it appeared that they were more concerned about the appearance of “unity” than the principles on which they ran to get elected. There is a dangerous deception in the calls for unity. Most often those calls are from the media and Democrats. They are loudest when Republicans win.

The Governor Who Prayed for Rain

President-Elect Trump formally announced former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as his pick for Agriculture Secretary. The first headlines from mainstream media were about Sonny’s call for prayer for rain in 2007.

Sonny Perdue is a man of faith. He grew up on a farm. It is virtually unheard of to find a farmer who does not acknowledge reliance on divine Providence. Praying for good weather conditions is a part of life in a family and community dependent on agriculture.

Pig Painting to Come Down

Last Friday morning I wrote a letter to Congressman Sanford Bishop asking him to demand that the “pig” painting be taken down. According to News reports from last Friday evening, the painting in the halls of Congress depicting police officers as pigs will come down on Tuesday, January 17.  I still want him to respond to my request.
