How I Will Vote on Constitutional Amendments

Many times I am asked my opinion about various issues on the ballot. This year in Georgia we have four proposed amendments to ratify or reject.

Proposed Amendment # 1 – Opportunity School District

Proposed Amendment # 2 – Georgia Additional Penalties for Sex Crimes to Fund Services for Sexually Exploited Children

Proposed Amendment # 3 – Georgia Replacement of the Judicial Qualifications Commission

Proposed Amendment # 4 – Uses of Revenue from Taxes on Fireworks

Just a little review on the process to amend the Constitution. A resolution to amend the Constitution must receive a 2/3 vote in the Georgia House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate. If the resolution meets that super majority in both House and Senate, then it goes to the voters to ratify by a simple majority.

Fifteen Years Later

Fifteen years ago we were viciously attacked.  The enemy was not a nation with a flag.  It was an ideology of hate and domination.  We witnessed heroic actions of Americans.

Today we remember and honor those who fell on that day as well as those who have since fallen in the war against terror. We pray for those who are still fighting that war.
On that day in 2001 and the days following, America came together.  Images of fire fighters raising the American flag in the rubble of the Twin Towers displayed our resolve.

Veterans Group Questions Bishop’s Military Service

A Veterans group blog site recently filed a Freedom of Information request regarding Congressman Sanford Bishop’s claim to be an Army veteran. They posted the response on their blog and the Facebook page of the 2nd District Republican Party.

Congressman Bishop’s official biography reads, “He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971; completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, entered Advanced Reserve Officers Training, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1971.”

The Presidency is Not a Celebrity Reality Show

The American culture is infatuated with celebrities. We can text our vote for contestants on Dancing With the Stars. Reality shows abound filled with interpersonal conflicts and drama.

This cultural shift spills over into the political process. The mainstream media focuses on the latest Twitter message and who got offended. As a result political coverage sounds more like a kindergarten playground with shrill cries of, “Did not.” “Did too.”

Preacher Disgrace Not Absolved with Pie in the Face

In the Republican run-off for a Glynn County Commission race, Bishop Kenneth Adkins admitted to making up an endorsement from State Representative Jeff Jones for one of the candidates in the race.  The truth is that Jeff Jones endorsed the other candidate.

Georgia Pundit editor, Todd Rehm, shared a report from the Florida Times Union about the incident. According to the report, Bishop Adkins pulled photos from Representative Jones’ State Legislative site and Facebook page and then posted a statement that reads in part,

Perpetual Half Mast

Have you ever reached for the radio dial to find a news station when you saw a flag flying at half mast? Two words probably ran through your mind. “Who died?”

When a flag was at half mast, it meant that a senior statesman died or there was a tragic event. When a flag was at half mast, it got your attention. It stood out.

Today, our flag is at perpetual half mast. Victims of terrorist attacks have barely been laid to rest before we hear of another attack.

Voting Time Again – My Endorsements – Congress and a Local Race

Early voting for the primary run-off elections starts today. In a local Crisp County run-off I am voting for and supporting Amber Holloway for Judge of Probate Court.

In the 3rd Congressional District, I endorse Mike Crane for Congress. I don’t live in the 3rd so I can not vote for him. I encourage those who can to vote for him.

The Voters Have Brokered This Convention

Ted Cruz suspended his campaign for President after losing Indiana. He was consistent to the end. In announcing the suspension of his campaign, he had said at the beginning that he was in this race as long as he could see a path to victory. In speaking to a group of his supporters, Cruz said that the voters of Indiana closed that path.

While suspending his campaign, he made it clear that his fight for liberty will continue. I interpret that to mean that he will be working to support the Republican nominee, who is presumptively Donald Trump. Ted Cruz took an honorable, honest, and courageous step by suspending his campaign. To continue on after a decisive loss in Indiana would be counter-productive.
