My Conversation with a D-Day Veteran

See and hear PFC Julian Parker’s story in his own words.

On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Nineteen-year-old Private First Class, Julian Parker stood in silence with his fellow American soldiers on the landing craft as it churned toward Normandy. Seventy-seven years later, he talked with me about his experiences.

He waded to the beach in shoulder-deep water. He took a hill and when the smoke cleared, he saw to his shock that German soldiers put children in the front line and shot them in the back if they let Americans get past them.

He was blown 30 feet in the air by a land-mine. He witnessed the horrors of the German death camps and the near starvation of American POW’s.

He also saw General Patton. Julian Parker experienced it all.

The war had such an impact on Julian, that when he got home, he took an unusual action. He took his hunting rifle out to the woods and buried it.

I talked to Julian in 2018 and wrote a commentary about that conversation that you can read here. This year, I wanted to get his story on video to preserve.

Thank you to Julian and Jean Parker for giving me the honor and privilege to video and publish his experiences. You need to watch and share this video.

There are few veterans of that era still living. If you know of another veteran of WWII or Korea, I would love to talk with him or her. Send an e-mail to don@doncole.com.

I will be releasing a new video every week under one of three main categories: Proclamation, People, and Policy.

Thank you for reading and watching. Please like this video on You Tube and subscribe to my channel.
