Sanford Bishop Must Go

Sanford Bishop put his contempt for the people of Southwest Georgia on full display. He voted in lock step with Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and the radical left to impeach President Trump.

Hundreds across the 2nd District sent him e-mails and called his office urging him to vote NO on impeachment. I wrote and asked him to not just vote NO but to actively oppose the impeachment.

I knew that my words, as the words of the hundreds, possibly thousands of his constituents, would fall on deaf ears. His ears were not deaf, they were fixed like noise cancelling headphones to only hear the voice of the radical Democrats.

Sanford not only does not represent the people of Southwest Georgia. He is actively engaged against his own constituency. He must go. You can help and I am not asking you to donate money.

As some of you know, I serve as a federal employee. However, I am writing this in my personal (unofficial) capacity as a private citizen.

In full compliance with my obligations under the Hatch Act, I am not writing this commentary in my official capacity, nor in a federal building, nor using government resources.

For the record I am on personal leave as I write this message. I am not asking for any political contributions to any candidate. The Hatch Act does not prohibit me from exercising my First Amendment rights in my unofficial capacity as a private citizen.

I can express my opinion and I have been doing that for years. And in my personal capacity, I can endorse or oppose candidates for office. As noted above, I cannot do it in my official capacity, using government equipment, at government offices, or on government time.

Sanford Bishop is not an insurmountable foe. He can be defeated. I am asking for your help and it is not by donating money.

In order to defeat him, conservatives will need a strong conservative message, communicated on a regular basis across the 2nd District. I have been doing this for nearly two decades.

So, here is what I am asking you to do. Forward this message to a friend and ask your friend to sign up for my commentaries. Sign up at the end after you see what I’ve got to say. My readers know that I don’t send junk and I will not share anyone’s e-mail address without permission.

Sanford Bishop often brags of his position on the Agriculture Committee. His boasting is without substance.

Perhaps the biggest event in the history of the 2nd District was Hurricane Michael. Before Michael, farmers across the 2nd District looked out across their fields that were white unto harvest.

2018 was to be a bumper crop. Everything was looking good. As Tony the Tiger says, it was not just good. It was GREAT!

It took less than the time for a high school football game to turn that bright optimism into dark despair. Hurricane Michael slammed through the middle of the 2nd district snapping pecan and pine trees like toothpicks and sweeping cotton off the stalks like a lint brush cleaning a suit.

When it came time to try to salvage what little cotton was left, flooding rains kept harvesters out of the fields. Everything was lost.

Historically after such a disaster, Congress passes a bill within days of the event to provide aid.  Michael was one of the worst hurricanes in history and was the most devastating event to Georgia agriculture since we were keeping records. William Tecumseh Sherman would be green with envy at the destruction wrought across Georgia by Hurricane Michael.

The 2nd District was ground zero for Hurricane Michael. If there was any time that 2nd District needed a powerful voice, it was then.

Surely the powerful Chairman of the House Agriculture Appropriations Committee would flex his muscles and roar like a lion to get help for his District. But Democrats demanded more aid for Puerto Rico before helping our farmers.

Our farmers and communities needed to hear a lion’s roar and see him flex political muscle. Sanford Bishop trembled in the shadows and was as quiet as a mouse. He put Puerto Rico ahead of his own district!

Days turned to months. Bankers and vendors were forced to stretch credit lines to the breaking point.  Farmers and entire communities anxiously waited for disaster relief.

The relief finally came eight months later. Bishop had the gall to come to Doerun, GA and tell farmers how fortunate he was to serve as Chairman of the House Agriculture Appropriations Committee.

I’m sure it was fortunate for him so that he could wine and dine with the lobbyists in DC. It was not fortunate for the farmers, bankers, vendors, and communities who were holding on for dear life.

Like the wicked servant in the parable of the three servants, Bishop squandered the opportunity. When our farmers needed it most, he didn’t let his big chairmanship light shine.

He hid it under a bushel basket. There were plenty available because there was no cotton to fill them.

President Trump negotiated the US, Mexico, Canada (USMCA) with Mexico and Canada to replace NAFTA. USMCA is better in every aspect than NAFTA.

A swift passage would have been easy. USMCA gave farmers and business a stable policy to make planning decisions.

The USMCA agreement languished. It languished because Nancy Pelosi and Democrats focused all their attention on impeaching President Trump.

Sanford Bishop again, was habitually silent. When Pelosi finally allowed a vote, it passed the House by an overwhelming 385-41.

This was a slam-dunk, no-brainer for Bishop to champion as soon as the President signed it. He had every basis to say that he was reaching across the aisle and publicly stand for it.  As always, Bishop kept silent while he enjoyed his prestige.

Sanford Bishop has grown accustomed to the prestige of being a Congressman. Jesus described this attitude well when he spoke of the religious leaders of the day, “They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men.” (Matthew 23:6-7)

Sanford does not stand up for the values of the people of the 2nd District. In fact, he does not stand up for much of anything.

In the book of Revelation,  Jesus gave John a message for the Church at Laodicea, “I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.”  (Revelation 3:15-16)

It is time for the voters of the 2nd District to put an end to three decades of the lukewarm, rancid, nauseous, occupation of a seat in Congress. Sanford Bishop must go!
