After States Cast Electoral Votes CNN Still Poses Scenarios

In the movie, Dumb and Dumber, the character, Lloyd Christmas wants to know the chances of a guy like him connecting with a girl like Mary Swanson. She clearly doesn’t want to hurt his feelings but he presses the issue and she finally tells him that the chances are like one out of a million. Lloyd confidently responds, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance. YEAH!”

Since the Presidential election, we have watched the main stream media, particularly CNN, live out the role of Lloyd Christmas. Electors in states across the nation cast their votes for President on Monday, December 19, 2016 and Donald Trump was officially elected as President by a majority of electors. Continue reading →

The Mayflower Compact and Thanksgiving

In 1620 a small group booked passage on the Mayflower to go to the new world. Shortly before their arrival in the new world, the leaders joined together to sign a mutual compact. 41 men on board the ship signed the compact. It set forth the purpose of their voyage and their agreement to self government.

The Mayflower Compact became the seed of a radically new form of government that nearly two centuries later would be known as the United States of America. You have heard of the Mayflower Compact. Have you read it? It is three brief paragraphs. Continue reading →

Constitution Day and How We Have Strayed

On September 17, 1787, delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the United States Constitution to send it to the states for ratification. The major issue in the discussion of the new Constitution was representation. States with larger population wanted representation based on population. States with smaller populations feared being overpowered by a few states and called for equal representation for each state.

The Connecticut Compromise gave us the legislative organization that we have today. The House of Representatives is based on population. The Senate provides two votes for each state regardless of size. This presents the unusual situation for seven states, Alaska, Delaware, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming having more Senators than members in the House of Representatives. There is No Need for a Showdown

The headlines for the past several days have focused on the “showdown” between President Obama and the Republicans in the Senate over a replacement for the late Justice Antonin Scalia. There is no reason to have a showdown.

Some say that the President should not nominate a replacement in the last year of his term just months before an election. Some say that the Senate should not consider any nominee of President Obama in the last year of his administration. Continue reading →

Our Nation is in Peril

Our nation is in peril. Yesterday afternoon I saw an e-mail come across with a headline that read something like “We have lost a great conservative.” Thinking that it was probably some kind of click bait I thought, “OK, I’ll bite.”

What I read hit me like a ton of bricks. US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died Saturday afternoon. He was the solid rock of constitutional law and decisions on the Supreme Court. Continue reading →

How Government is Like a Wildfire

 Smokey the Bear says, “Only you can prevent wildfire.” Fire is one of the most valuable chemical reactions known to man. It can heat your home, cook your food, and power your automobile. It can also be one of the most destructive forces known to man.

If it is not tightly controlled, the same fire that provides warmth, can burn your home down with you and your loved ones inside. Fire has an insatiable appetite for oxygen and fuel. It does not care where it gets it.

Let’s Set the Record Straight on David Perdue and the Iran Agreement

Yesterday I began receiving e-mail messages about Senator David Perdue being one of 8 Republican Senators to vote with the Democrats on the Iran Terror Amendment. When I asked for the referenced vote, I received link to a web site with story about how horrible the deal with Iran is.

The article included a link to commentary from Mark Levin’s radio show. The commentary on the show was from last April. It dealt with an amendment that Senator Rubio introduced to a bill that required congressional review of any agreement with Iran.
